Galicia’s popular imaginary
The hillfort has gone unexcavated, but it possesses a significant intangible heritage value.
The hillfort has been the subject of numerous myths that lend this space a certain mysticism. Here, we embrace the “world of the mouros and mouras” (ancient supernatural beings) and learn about Galicia’s popular imaginary. The upper part of the hillfort is known as “Eira dos Mouros” (the threshing floor of the Mouros), as a “moura”, or beautiful woman, would appear there at night with a tent, asking anyone passing what they wanted to buy. She would occasionally take the form of a serpent and be capable of turning the whole hillfort into gold.
