Igrexa Vella

Places of memory

From a small church to a monastery

The first building can be dated in the 5th century. Over time, it would evolve and become more complex. Ancient documents have revealed the presence of a small church and a monastery founded in the early Middle Ages which was dismantled in the 18th century to make way for the current Santa Comba de Louro church. The site’s very name, Igrexa Vella (Old Church), refers to the church that once existed here and that has been documented by archaeologists.
