Mercado dos Mouros
Life by the river’s edge
A fishermen’s and traders’ town
This settlement might have been a small village located in or close to an area of salt marshes that would be flooded at high tide. This location on the southern bank of the River Ulla might have meant it was occupied temporarily to control such an important communication network, and also for carrying out typical, river-based activities, such as fishing, which would provide sustenance to a small number of people.
